At the moment that hardware is a pair of off the shelf development boards breadboarded together, which is exactly the right way to prove a protocol before committing to copper: easy to reflash, easy to probe, easy to abandon if the timing assumptions turn out to be wrong.

The stated next step is turning that lash up into a purpose built PCB so the installation can become permanent. That is the sensible progression, and it is where most hobby lighting projects either mature or stall.
