A short progress update on the reverse engineered garden lights. About 74 fixtures are now installed, so far concentrated in the children’s play area, with more planned for the playhouse. The controller shown in hand confirms that the reverse engineering of the fixtures’ proprietary protocol was successful: the lights are currently driven from a pair of development boards running the firmware developed in the earlier episodes, which proves that the installation works at this scale. It is not a permanent arrangement, since the development boards and their loose wiring are not suited to an outdoor installation that has to survive the seasons. The next video therefore starts the design of a dedicated PCB for the controller, so that the temporary hardware can be replaced with something built for the job and the remaining fixtures can be added.
