This review looks past the novelty factor and asks whether the tiny heated area is genuinely useful in day to day repair work.

The build quality gets a proper inspection, including a teardown that shows how the heater element, sensing and control electronics are packaged into such a small footprint, and how the unit manages heat away from the body and the bench surface. Power delivery is a key limitation worth understanding before buying: the plate depends on a capable USB-C PD supply to reach and hold higher setpoints, so results vary with the charger you pair it with.

Temperature performance is checked against an independent measurement rather than trusting the display, which matters because reflow profiles for leaded and lead free paste leave little margin. The user interface, with its small OLED screen and limited controls, is also assessed for how quickly you can change setpoints mid job.

The most instructive section is selective rework on a populated PCB, where the small plate is used to bring just one region of a board up to temperature while neighbouring components stay comparatively cool. That is the MHP30’s real argument: not as a replacement for a full sized hotplate for whole board reflow, but as a precise, desk friendly heat source for prototyping, BGA and QFN removal on small assemblies, and quick paste reflow jobs where hot air would disturb nearby parts.
