Probe quality, input protection and safety category claims also get attention, since cheap meters frequently overstate what their front end can survive.

A look inside rounds things out, showing the PCB layout, protection components and general construction standard, which is often the clearest indicator of whether a low cost meter is safe for anything beyond low voltage bench work. The takeaway for buyers is about expectations: a device like the MDS8207 can be genuinely handy for quick field checks and rough signal confirmation, but it is not a substitute for a proper bench scope or a well specified standalone multimeter. Whether it earns a place in your kit depends on how much you value portability over measurement confidence.
