SDG #181 Riden Power Supply Chassis and Power Supply Assembly RD6012 RD6006
The Riden RD6012 and RD6006 are popular buck converter modules, but on their own they are only half a bench power supply. This build looks at the officially matched chassis kit and the AC-DC supply that feeds it, which is the part most buyers overlook when comparing prices.
The AC-DC brick gets opened up first, and that teardown matters more than it sounds: the quality of the mains side determines how safe and how quiet the finished supply is, and it sets the ceiling on what current the RD6012 can actually deliver. Construction, component choices and layout are assessed, then compared against the smaller supply supplied with earlier RD6006 bundles so you can see what the extra headroom buys you. A load resistor and the bundled accessories are also covered, including what is and is not included in the box.
Assembly into the metal chassis shows how straightforward, or fiddly, the wiring and front panel fit really is, including fan mounting and terminal connections. Once buttoned up, the unit goes through initial functional checks and then real load testing, where regulation, thermal behaviour and fan noise under sustained current are the things worth watching. That is where these kits usually reveal their limits, and the results give a realistic picture of whether the RD6012 in a chassis is a credible substitute for a commercial linear or switching bench supply, or a budget compromise you accept knowingly.
