SDG #333 GVM H3 - Performing how it should! (almost)

The GVM H3 gets a second evaluation here, following on from earlier testing that showed the station falling short of what its hardware should be capable of. This time the focus is on whether the underlying control behaviour has actually improved, rather than simply whether the unit heats up and looks the part on the bench.

The testing centres on how quickly the iron recovers under load, how closely the displayed temperature tracks reality, and how the station behaves during sustained work rather than in a brief idle measurement. Scope captures and thermal measurements are used to look past the front panel readout, which is where cheaper stations often flatter themselves. The result is a noticeably better showing than before, with the H3 finally delivering something closer to the power and responsiveness its specification implies.

That said, the verdict is qualified. There are still behavioural oddities and rough edges that stop this being a straightforward recommendation, and buyers should weigh the improved thermal performance against the remaining quirks in control and usability. For anyone considering the H3, the useful takeaway is that firmware and control tuning matter as much as raw wattage: two units with identical hardware can feel completely different to solder with.
