The Quick TR1 takes the familiar Quick hot air handpiece and stuffs the blower, control electronics and power stage inside it, so the only thing leaving the handle is a mains lead. For anyone working on a cramped bench, that removes the base station entirely while keeping compatibility with standard Quick nozzles and a replaceable heating element, which matters a lot for long term serviceability.
The teardown shows a genuinely well engineered product rather than a cost-cut novelty. Inside are two stacked PCBs: a user interface board carrying the OLED, four tactile switches, an STM32 and a pair of op amps for the thermocouple, sitting on a power board with bridge rectifier, bulk capacitor, buck regulator, a triac for the heater and an integrated six-MOSFET three-phase driver module for the brushless blower. Notably the motor runs open loop with no feedback, hence the gentle spin-up ramp on start-up. There is a non-resettable mains fuse for gross heater faults, though removing the inlet filter exposes live capacitor terminals, so a broken filter becomes a real safety concern.
Performance-wise, peak draw hits roughly 1400 W on warm-up and a thermocouple check at a 300 C setpoint reads essentially spot on, so calibration is not a worry. Airflow is strong and the handpiece balances naturally without the gyroscopic feel of tip-mounted fan designs. The trade-offs are noise, mostly rushing air rather than motor whine but loud at higher fan settings, a longer and heavier handle, a lightweight cradle that only triggers sleep mode, and a stiff 1.5 m PVC mains cable that drags the unit around. Swapping to silicone cable and adding length would be an easy owner-side fix.
