The HU-708A is one of the many budget HDMI microscope cameras sold under a pile of different brand names, typically advertised as “14MP” with a C-mount body, an HDMI output and an included stand. This review looks past the headline sensor claim and asks the questions that actually matter for bench work: how usable is the live image at typical SMD working distances, how much latency is there when you move a board or a soldering iron under the lens, and how much of the quoted resolution is genuine versus interpolated.
A lot of the real-world performance of a setup like this comes down to the optics rather than the camera head. Swapping the supplied lens for a higher quality C-mount zoom lens changes the picture considerably, both in sharpness across the frame and in working distance, which is the single most important spec if you intend to get a soldering iron and tweezers underneath it. The stand matters too: cheap column stands flex and drift, which is far more annoying in practice than a slightly soft image.
For anyone weighing this against a stereo microscope, the trade off is the usual one. An HDMI camera on a monitor gives you a comfortable head position, easy screen sharing and video capture, but you lose stereo depth perception, which takes some adjustment when placing fine-pitch parts. As a low cost route into inspection and rework video, cameras in this class are good value provided you budget for a decent lens and a solid stand rather than relying entirely on what comes in the box.
