SDG #081 Micsig DP20003 High Voltage Differential Probe
The Micsig DP20003 is the higher voltage sibling of the widely recommended DP10013, aimed at anyone probing mains circuits, switch mode power supplies, motor drives, inverters or high voltage rails where a standard passive probe and a ground clip would be a bad idea. Differential probes remove the earth reference problem entirely, letting you measure floating nodes safely without the classic trick of isolating the scope or the DUT.
The practical question with any probe in this class is whether the extra voltage headroom is worth the extra cost over the DP10013. The DP20003 buys you a substantially higher differential and common mode voltage rating along with useful bandwidth, which matters if you are chasing switching edges, gate drive ringing or snubber behaviour rather than just checking a DC bus level. Where the lower range model runs out of margin, this one keeps working, and the attenuation settings let you scale sensibly so you are not throwing away vertical resolution on small ripple measurements sitting on top of a large DC offset.
Build quality, supplied leads and clips, and the general usability of the probe body all get attention here, since a differential probe is only as good as the connection method at the DUT end. For most hobby and small workshop users the DP10013 remains the value pick, but if your work regularly involves higher voltage rails, three phase gear or automotive high voltage systems, the DP20003 is the more future proof buy and avoids the frustration of a probe that clips at exactly the moment you need the measurement.
