SDG #364 VDIAG V200 Pro Automotive Circuit Probe and Wire Tracer

The VDIAG V200 Pro is a 12V power probe that borrows the format of a bench logic probe and adapts it for vehicle wiring. It reads voltage with a colour coded high/low indication, checks resistance and diode junctions, injects battery voltage or ground at the tip, and doubles as a tone generator paired with a separate radio receiver wand for wire tracing.

The teardown is the most revealing part of the review. Inside is an NXP ARM microcontroller driving the display and generating the trace tone, but the power injection path has no switching device at all: the front rocker switch carries the current directly. Combined with the very thin supply lead, that puts a practical ceiling of around 5A continuous on the probe. Anyone planning to use it to spin up radiator fans on long test runs should treat the published capability with scepticism.

Measurement performance is best described as indicative rather than precise. Resistance readings came in at 988 ohms on a 1k precision resistor and 9.9k on a 10k, which is fine for continuity style checks. The diode test oddly reports impedance rather than forward voltage. The built in scope tracks sine waves cleanly until roughly 30kHz before aliasing, and squares to around 50kHz, with the notable omission of any duty cycle readout, an awkward gap given how many vehicle sensors report via PWM.

The tone tracer proved genuinely useful, pinpointing a deliberate break in a taped up loom by the drop in signal amplitude. Sensible caution applies when injecting tone into live or delicate circuits. For a low cost DIY or entry level workshop tool, it earns its place.
