The Aifen A902 is an unusually complete package for the money: a dual channel base station supplied with all three JBC style handpieces (C245, C210 and C115) plus a set of cartridges, so one purchase covers everything from 0402 rework to light through hole work. Both channels use identical DIN connectors, meaning any handpiece can go in either socket, and the integrated cradles hold even the slim C115 securely, which is a genuine improvement over separate nano cradles.

The teardown is where the compromises show. Inside is a single low cost STC microcontroller board with an AIP1640 display driver, a pair of MOSFETs and sense resistors per channel, fed by a lightweight dual output switch mode supply. Notably, the 5V rail is derived from a bare LM7805 hanging off 24V with no heatsink, which will run hot and is the obvious first modification for anyone keeping the unit long term. The rear switch only breaks the 5V rail so the display blanks instantly rather than fading out.

Calibration out of the box was poor: one channel read roughly 25C off, the other closer to 50C, though the built in offset routine brought both within about 5C with minimal overshoot. Because the offset is stored per channel rather than per handpiece, you effectively have to dedicate a handpiece to each side. The 2p coin test exposed a weak supplied cartridge that failed to register the thermal load; a genuine JBC cartridge cured it completely. Cradle behaviour is also crude, cutting heater power entirely rather than using a setback temperature, and the displayed recovery figure appears optimistic versus a real tip thermometer. Good value for a hobbyist or repair startup, less convincing as a professional station.
